Our care

The team at New Day nursing and residential home provides support that meets the individual needs of all of our residents.

Choosing the right care home can be a difficult decision, particularly if you’re not sure what type of care your loved one needs.

Whether you need residential care for someone who is finding it increasingly difficult or lonely living in their own home, specialist nursing or dementia care, or short term respite or convalescence care, the team at Newday Nursing and Residential Home is happy to help.

Specialist dementia care

Based in the heart of Acocks Green

Based in the heart of Acocks Green, Newday Nursing Home specialise in providing high quality care and support for people who are living with dementia in the Birmingham area. Our team takes a person-centred approach to care planning. We encourage independence and build self-esteem by focusing on the unique capabilities of each person and concentrating on what they can do, rather than what they can’t.

All staff members, from care and nursing staff to cleaners and cooks, have been specially trained to care and understand the needs of people living with dementia, ensuring that we all have the expertise to adjust the care and support required to meet changing needs. Staff are also chosen for their passion, compassion and integrity, resulting in care which is both dignified and caring in equal measure.

Under 65s/early-onset dementia care

At Newday, our specialist dementia care extends to those under the age of 65, with early-onset dementia. We understand that this younger age group – and their families – may require a different type of support. We focus on the capabilities, needs, and preferences of every individual, ensuring that our residents with dementia are supported to live life to the full, whatever their age.

Person-centred approach

We take a person-centred approach to care planning, meeting individual needs and preferences while focussing on encouraging independence and building self-esteem. To do this, we work hard to create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere which meets medical, emotional and physical needs.

Dementia friendly environment

Calming settings designed to reduce stress and stimulate memories

Our immediate surroundings can have a huge impact on our quality of life and sense of identity. To ensure that people feel at home when they move to New Day Nursing and Residential Home, we encourage our residents to personalise their rooms. Being surrounded by familiar pictures and other belongings, or filling a memory box with personal items and photos can help us to get to know our residents and their families, as well as encouraging short-term memories by stimulating long-term ones.

Respite and convalescent care

Nursing and residential care on a short term basis

Respite care for older people who are usually cared for at home. We understand that caring for a loved one can be very demanding. Whether you need respite care while you take a holiday, have a break or tend to your own well-being, we are happy to discuss your requirements.

We have found that respite care can be very valuable for older people too, giving them the opportunity to experience new things and meet new people. We also provide convalescent care for people in Acocks Green and surrounding areas, giving people the care and support they need to fully recover from an operation or hospital stay.

Carers and nursing staff are excellent, very professional, dementia aware, supportive of family relatives.
The activities in November – December 2019 were very resident centred including an excellent Christmas Party, a visiting pantomime, children’s choir.
Families were made very welcome at all activities. The nursing home is caring, welcoming and well kept. My wife’s vegetarian diet needs and her extreme dementia are well catered for.
