Food and drink

Fresh, delicious and nutritious food, with a variety of choice to suit all tastes and diets

The meals we prepare are nutritious, fresh, and delicious, while also meeting the dietary requirements of every resident. While many residents see mealtimes as a social occasion and enjoy the opportunity to chat with friends and fellow residents in one of our dining rooms, we fully respect personal choice and are happy to serve meals in the privacy of our residents own rooms, if preferred.

Our policy is to enable residents, as far as possible, to decide for themselves where, when and with whom they have the food and drink of their choice. Kitchenettes are available on each floor, enabling people to prepare their own snacks should they wish to.

Menus are changed on a monthly basis, according to the season. The kitchen team can also tailor our menus to meet dietary needs for cultural, religious and vegetarian options.

We understand that, for people with dementia, loss of appetite can result in poor nutrition and hydration. This can have the impact of increasing behavioural symptoms and causing weight loss. Our team is trained to work with residents to ensure that they are supported and encouraged to get the nutrition and hydration needed to keep them healthy.

Our caring approach

Our mission to deliver high quality person-centered care care which enhances quality of life for the people we support. We help our residents to lead fulfilling lives, with care that’s personalised to their individual needs and wishes.

For us, “quality care” means ensuring that every individual’s hopes, goals and needs are met.

Activities

A choice of engaging and entertaining activities

We encourage everyone to maintain the friendships, hobbies and interests they had before moving to Coppermill Care. Residents are encouraged to engage in choosing activities and letting us know what they want to do. As a result, our activities are very varied, from a quite game of scrabble or cards, sharing memories over photos, or crafting, to pamper days, theme nights, fetes and entertainers from the local community. We help to support this by ensuring that each resident has a personalised activity plan, with activities of their choice.Keeping active is key to helping residents to maintain life skills, support independence and contribute to both physical and mental wellbeing. Many of our residents thrive on opportunities for social interaction with fellow residents, friends and family and the local community. Our Activities Coordinators are skilled at planning enjoyable, stimulating activities including bowling, music and movement and bingo, as well as beauty-therapy and board games. We also support people who want to go shopping or out for a drink

There is Internet and WiFi available for anyone wishing to use it and residents can enjoy their own television within their room.

With dementia care a key part of the care we provide, we also ensure that there are plenty of sensory activities on offer, from arts and crafts to dementia-friendly puzzles, games, twiddle muffs and a sensory smell, touch and feel box.
Families and relationships
The door is always open to family members, and we encourage them to visit as often as they like. Forging close relationships with families is very important to us. It helps us to understand important information about the people we care for, which directly impacts the care we provide. We work closely with families to build a care plan which includes likes and dislikes, life-history, right down to what they like to watch on TV, and snacks they like to eat. These care plans evolve as needs change. We invite feedback from residents and families to ensure that we gather the information we need to continually improve our processes.

Our family are very happy with mum being at Coppermill Care. It is a big decision to leave the care of a loved one with other people.

Copperhill’s specialist care and attention is superb. I have no hesitation in recommending Coppermill Care.
