A Visit from the Horses

22/11/2024

Thank you to our lovely local horse riders, you made our residents’ day today when you visited!

Whether from inside the lounge or outside in person, our residents absolutely loved seeing the horses! The smiles on their faces said it all!

Equine therapy can be beneficial for older adults or those with Dementia in so many ways, including:

  • Psychological benefits that help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, and improve mental health.
  • Physical benefits as it calms you down and reduces symptoms such as stress and anxiety and therefore blood pressure.
  • Cognitive benefits as your mind stays active
  • Horses are good mirrors and often in tune with human emotions and behaviours. They are also social animals so make them easy to build bonds with.
  • Physical activity and fine motor skills in the hands as our residents stroke, groom or pet the horses
The outdoor setting combined with the calming effect of the horses helps to decrease stress levels

Broadmead are very lucky to have such a close and loving relationship with the members of our community.

Please come back for a visit soon!
