At Hayes Park we always celebrate as many festivals and celebrations as we can from all around the world!
This month we celebrated Navratri and Diwali, both festivals that come from the Hindu religion.
Navratri celebrates the goddess, Durga and her nine avatars over nine nights. Each of the nine days symbolises the nine forms of Durga in different parts of life, power, knowledge, wealth and so on. This festival symbolises the triumph of good over evil.
Diwali, also known as Deepawali, is a five-day festival of lights that celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and wisdom over ignorance. People often celebrate Diwali by decorating their homes with candles, sharing sweets and lighting fireworks.
Our residents enjoyed the decorations we put up, the henna tattoo designs, party snacks and dancing with “dandia” sticks! We were fortunate also to have family members visit us to join in with the festivities!
