At New Day Nursing Home, we believe in finding joy in the little things and our indoor gardening session was the perfect example!
Residents got hands-on with kitchen herbs, planting and potting fragrant favourites like basil, parsley, and mint. The activity brought smiles all around, offering a gentle and meaningful way to connect with nature, even from the comfort of indoors.
Why Gardening Matters
-
Therapeutic & Calming: The simple act of nurturing plants can ease stress and improve mood — a gentle, grounding experience for both body and mind.
-
Tactile & Engaging: Handling soil, watering, and tending to herbs provides sensory stimulation and helps maintain fine motor skills.
-
Purpose & Pride: Watching something grow from seed to sprout brings a wonderful sense of achievement — and soon, we’ll enjoy the flavours of our own fresh herbs in the kitchen!
This was more than just a lovely way to spend the day — it was a reminder that growth, connection, and joy can thrive anywhere, even in small pots on a windowsill.
