Our caring approach

Our mission to deliver high quality care which enhances quality of life for the people we support. We help our residents to lead fulfilling lives, with care that’s personalised to their individual needs and wishes.

For us, “quality care” means ensuring that every individual’s hopes, goals and needs are met.

Enriching lives

Quality care in the heart of Acocks Green

Our home is full of character and life that adds to our charm. Our experience of living and working at Newday is that living a happy and fulfilling life is not about where you live, but how you live – which is why we focus on enriching lives with quality care, a friendly approach and a choice of stimulating activities.

Our building is a characterful and charming period property, externded over time which fits well with the Victorian and Edwardian houses and buildings in the roads surrounding us in Acocks Green. Reputed to be a former maternity hospital, we’ve been lucky enough to care for elderly people who have started their lives in the very same building.

Specialist dementia care

Dementia friendly environments reduce stress and increase independence

Having dementia can be stressful and exhausting, with stress making people more agitated and confused. Dementia friendly-environments can help to relieve some of these issues, creating calming settings which increase independence and reduce confusion. At New Day, we have decorated the hallways in contrasting colours, given them all a “street name” and bedroom doors that resemble a traditional style front door. These steps, as well as pictorial signs around the building, help people to identify their rooms and support them to move around independently

Facilities at New Day

Communal areas that create a sense of community

The team at Newday Nursing Home prides itself on the home’s welcoming atmosphere. When you step through the doors, you’ll be greeted with a friendly smile and a warm welcome. Once inside, you’ll find a range of communal areas, including 2 comfortable and spacious lounges, a conservatory, a computer room and a sensory room. We have also installed a custom wifi solution to ensure our residents have access anywhere in the home.

Sensory room

A comfortable and calming space which can reduce the symptoms of dementia

Our sensory room is an ideal space to calm and relieve stress. Research shows that modifying the amounts of stimuli that people are bombarded with on a day-to-day basis and adjusting the sensory input to meet each person’s needs can reduce the symptoms of dementia. Our sensory room combines gentle light, movement, music and tactile objects which can be used to either calm or stimulate residents, enhancing feelings of wellbeing and helping to improve communication.

Outside space

Our gardens provide a safe and secure space to enjoy the outdoors

Our gardens are a safe and secure outdoor space which give our residents the opportunity to access fresh air, exercise and sunlight – all of which is proven to be vital to wellbeing and mental health. The garden is frequently used for BBQs in the summer, has space to grow our own vegetables and also has a small smoking area for those that need it.

Our bedrooms

Private, cosy and comfortable space to call your own

Our bedrooms are designed to provide each individual with a private, cosy and safe place which promotes a good night’s sleep. Residents are encouraged to personalise their room by decorating it with pictures, personal items and, in some cases, small items of furniture. Doing so can help people to settle in, enhance their sense of identity and provide useful and important talking points for the staff to engage people in meaningful conversation.

The building itself is made up of numerous bedrooms consisting of 37 beds. While the majority are single rooms, we also have shared rooms, offering people the opportunity to enjoy the company of a partner, friend or room-mate.
All bedrooms are fully furnished and come equipped with a TV and phone point, ensuring that residents are able to chat on the phone to their heart’s content.

New Day Nursing Home has been amazing. They’re really helpful and very clean, ‘food is great’ and nurses and carers are always there for you. Mom has been really happy since she’s moved into New Day Nursing Home.
